Where all things beautiful collide

This fall is shaping up to be a luxurious one indeed!  Lace, fur, snake skin, and gorgeous velvet graced many a runway.  Velvet in particular showed its versatility in solids and burnt-out prints, structured silhouettes and draped.  My favorite thing about the velvet for fall was the spectrum of shades it popped up in.  From orchid purple, to royal blues and reds, to brownish purples that reminded me of my favorite fall bloom the anemone.  If you’re afraid of sporting  a velvet look, there are plenty of smart (and sexy) velvet accessories from the likes of Tom Ford and Pierre Hardy.

Michael van der Ham fall 2011

A new favorite designer of mine, van der Ham went the draping route with some of his looks, like this pretty dress in the prettiest of shades.

Emilio Pucci fall 2011

I’m so obsessed with this aubergine burnt-out velvet dress with lace trim.  It’s so sexy for covering the entire body.  The sheer fabric underneath that actually shows the body might be why.  I want to dress someone in this!

Proenza Schouler fall 2011

Proenza Schouler fall 2011

The duo behind Proenza Schouler looked to the Southwest for their fall inspiration.  Velvet in tribal-like burn-out prints were the chic conclusion to their fall show.

Dries van Noten fall 2011

This velvet and lucite bootie is beyond fantastic!

Stella McCartney fall 2011

Stella McCartney fall 2011

Stella McCartney had some wonderful velvet looks in black and blue.  SUGGESTION:  where black and blue together as seen in some of her other runway looks.  ALSO:  black and brown (huge for fall).

Naomi Campbell in fall 2011 Givenchy campaign

A custom cat suit for the catwomanesque Campbell made for a perfect campaign for Givenchy to show off the vibe of the fall looks, which included a lot of panthers and violets.

Givenchy fall 2011

Givenchy fall 2011

A velvet pencil skirt is a must-have for fall according to me and Ricardo Tisci of Givenchy.  A pretty violet print blouse is paired with one (top), and a fun sweater featuring a Betty Page-like character is with another (above).

Tom Ford fall 2011

For the men, a velvet tuxedo jacket or blazer is always a good idea.

Tom Ford fall 2011

Tom Ford went the tailored route for fall with his vampy velvet looks.  He is one of the best tailors for men and women!

Tom Ford fall 2011

Most of Mr. Ford’s models wore velvet shoes in various versions, from a more simple heel to a lace-up bootie.
