Where all things beautiful collide

I’ll be honest, Christmas isn’t my favorite holiday.  I love the beauty of winter (not necessarily the cold), like snow and frost on the trees, but as much as I love decorating for Christmas, my heart really belongs to New Year’s Eve!  I love the energy, the friends coming together, the optimism and chance to start anew, the fireworks, and especially the champagne!!  Here are 10 Things I Love This Holiday Season: The NYE addition!

I’ve shared this photo before I’m sure, but it is especially perfect this year.  Pink is a big part of my NYE scheme, and seems unexpected among a season of red and green.  The tablecloth with embroidered snowflakes in silver reminds us that it’s winter, and that champagne and the noisemakers remind us to celebrate!

1.  TOASTING A NEW YEAR:  Raise a glass, this one from West Elm or any glass, and toast to whatever you see fit!  Friends, family, love, happiness…

2.  PINK & BLUE:  I mentioned the color pink being a shade I’m loving for the New Year, well combine that with an equally bold cobalt, and you have a chic combination that says “I’m ready for 2013!!”

3.  STELLA MCCARTNEY:   If every woman dressed like a Stella girl this holiday season, I’d be a happy boy!  Those blue lashes, brocade shirts and dresses, and pleated collars and necklaces, are the perfect recipe for holiday dressing!  Her Evening Collection specifically was designed for special occasions.  Check it out!

4.  PANSIES:  A seemingly delicate flower, the pansy somehow withstands the bitter cold, and is lovely amid the sometimes gloom of the season in shades of purple, blue, and yellow.

Place these randomly down a table, bar, or buffet in all the shades, and you have simple yet chic decorations for your NYE party.  Candlelight is a MUST!!  They are also lovely as small bud vases.  I would mix the two!

5.  CONFETTI & COLOR:  If there is one chance a year to be bold, whether with entertaining and decorating, or with your outfit, it’s New Year’s!  Think sparkle and shine, bright, and fearless!  Try new things with makeup, wear the jewelry or pair of shoes you love but don’t wear, and get the china out of the cupboard you may be afraid to use the other 364 days of the year (365 this leap year)!

Clear off the Chinese dogs, and possibly the obelisks, and add bottles of your favorite libations, pretty glassware of all types , and perhaps canape plates, cocktail napkins, simple votives, and small arrangements of flowers (keep those lilies even), and you have a perfect bar!  This space by Miles Redd is clearly a foyer, but this is a great idea if you have a small apartment or house, to use every inch, like taking your small entry table and turning it into an appetizer, drink, or dessert bar.

7.  DRINKING IN STYLE:  Whether you’re popping open a bottle of sparkling cider, or the finest champagne (like this David Lynch for Dom Perignon), drink it in style with pretty glassware, in a pretty place, with your pretty friends and family!

8.  IRIDESCENCE:  For pre-spring 2013, or resort, a huge trend in accessories is holographic.  I LOVE this trend, and think it should be employed right now!  How perfect is a hologram clutch or shoe with a black dress under a disco ball dancing away, or surrounded by white twinkling lights and streamers?!  I love it because at first glance it’s silver, and then it becomes so much more!  You can wear any color with these accessories and jewelry.  P.S. I want the iridescent wrapping paper more than the owls above.
