Where all things beautiful collide

We’ve had a cool stretch here in Seattle this July, and perhaps that’s sparked my freshest posts, but I think I’m also just tired of talking summer.  I mean it makes sense really.  Even if I’m still enjoying summer, it’s just time to move on, like all the magazines have.  They’re into almost complete fall mode now, and stores are stocked with pre-fall product.  Also, autumn is my favorite fashion season, so I had to start the blog again from an unfortunately necessary hiatus.  Today’s topic is a trend I’m absolutely smitten with, and is a perfect lead off of yesterday’s post all about Western stripes, including blankets.  Blanket coats were all over the fall runways, and began in the pre-fall lookbooks, with almost every version you could imagine.  From loose shall-like styles that look as if a blanket was literally wrapped around the model, to tailored coats made from blanket-like fabrics, with belt and toggle closures (also huge for fall).  At Burberry, Christopher Bailey draped many of the models with blankets, while others wore fitted coats made from what could’ve been a vintage blanket with tapestry type patterns.  At Valentino and Chanel it was more on the Southwest side, while Stella McCartney brought houndstooth back, big in the Saville Row shops she apprenticed at in London, with her take on the pattern in small and oversized versions.  Plaids and stripes were also big in the pattern department, as seen at Céline, Delpozo, and Altuzarra.  Lanvin, Hermès, and Chloé cut simpler solid versions from what feels like a wool felt or cashmere blanket.  My favorite blanket coats have to be the ones Clare Waight Keller created for her pre collection at Chloé.  That collection was all about perfect layering, and the feminine pieces that Chloé is known for, mixed with precise tailoring.  Blanket coats might not be ideal to wear this very moment, but they’re definitely something to add to your “to buy” list!  I’ve chosen 6 perfect styles currently available at Net-a-Porter.  Enjoy the remains of summer, but get ready to wrap up for fall!
