Where all things beautiful collide

Tag Archives: Dries van Noten

Sadly another month of fashion has come to an end, with the last shows in Paris wrapping up on Wednesday.  With all the seemingly bad energy in fashion lately with talk of change or need of change, and big houses like Dior and Lanvin designerless, things ended up okay for the most part.  Designers like Dries van Noten (my favorite from Paris, and only on the second day) continued to shine, while designers like Guillaume Henry at Nina Ricci continue to find their way.  My biggest fear at Paris fashion week was the debut of Vetements designer Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga.  I might be the only one that doesn’t like Vetements, but my biggest surprise from Paris was how much I liked Balenciaga, not all of it, but a lot.  Other designers I can rely on for consistently great fashion, like Stella and Sacai, continued to deliver, while some like Céline were good but a little safe this season.  Jonathan Anderson is really hitting his stride at Loewe, and Karl brought some classic Chanel codes back for fall.  There was so much to love in Paris, but I’m sad to see all the fresh fashion done for now.  Resort 2017 will be here before we know it…eek!

One of my favorite things in the world is giving gifts, and although I prefer gifts for that special someone being given a little more spontaneous than just on February 14th, I understand the special significance of Valentine’s Day.  It’s the official day of love.  I’m single this year, so I won’t be doing as much gift giving; probably just some fresh flowers for my mom, but I have plenty of gift ideas for you and your boo (or bae).  From flowers, to chocolate, to jewelry, I’ve rounded up 14 perfect gifts!

So this list is a couple of days late from when I normally post it.  Something called New Years distracted me.  This week was a lot about fashion, since I was thinking so much about what to wear on New Year’s Eve, and I was particularly inspired by the jewelry, bags, and embellished boots from the fall ’15, and spring ’16 collections, and paillettes of fashion’s past.  On the home front, I’ve been thinking of fresh looks for the new year, like a bed update, and I am inspired particularly by spaces by the likes of Axel Vervoordt, and Jeffrey Bilhuber.  And I’m still loving all things mid-century.  Pretty flowers and table settings are still a must this year too!

It’s almost a new year!  Time to start thinking about your goals, all the places you want to go to in 2016, and most importantly what to wear New Year’s Eve!  I’ll be keeping it pretty casual this year (I usually at least wear a bow tie), but I have plenty of ideas for what you should wear inspired by the spring 2016 collections.  I’m loving spring pastels now, especially blushy mauve, but wouldn’t mind seeing a bold citron look either.  You can also never go wrong with metallics, like a silver lamé pant, or copper embroidered gown.  For your makeup, get inspired by Prada’s gold lip, or I’m always a fan of a clean neutral face.  A bold red lip is always a classic too though.  Just go for it…it’s the last night of 2015!

What did I love about this week?  Well, some of the best men’s fall 2015 collections wrapped up in Paris, followed by the spring ’15 couture shows, also in the City of Lights.  I also found a new favorite cashmere blanket maker, a perfect place to stay when I visit Italy, a place to dine in London, and perfect pottery to add to my place!  And a week ago today, Alexander Wang proved once again he can create magical red carpet moments, with Felicity Jones wearing quite possibly the most beautiful peach Balenciaga gown at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.  See more of what I’m loving on Pinterest and Instagram!

Christmas and Hanukkah are over…now on to my favorite holiday, New Year’s, and more particularly the eve before!  It’s one of those rare nights you can really go all-out with your clothing choices, and wear your prettiest and fanciest frocks.  I’ve gathered looks you may already own from the pre-fall and fall 2014 collections, as well as some inspiration from resort and spring 2015 to help you get your look perfected for the last night of 2014.  My favorite elements to party in are plenty of metallic and sparkle, hues inspired by the champagne you’ll be drinking, pretty pastels, and bold black and white.  This is my second to last post for the year, and I look forward to many more in 2015!

I might be too late and too hopeful, but here are the things I’d love to receive this Christmas, and things that just make me happy all year-long, like Vogue and vodka!  Keep my subscription going, my glass full, and my favorite thing in the world, flowers, in abundance.  Other things, some of which I’ve mentioned before, are fashion staples (but elevated) by Acne Studios (I’m obsessed with norm-core sweatshirts), and Dries van Noten, objects of desire by Apparatus Studio, Cody Hoyt, and Ladies & Gentlemen Studio, candles and scents by Byredo, and last but not least, I need to replace my poor cracked iPhone 5 with a new 6!  I swear I never break things!  I wanted my white iPhone to look like the runway of Alexander Wang’s debut collection for Balenciaga!  Thanks in advance for the gifts!!
