Where all things beautiful collide

Tag Archives: interiors

I was so excited this last week to discover more photos of my favorite interior designer’s most recently published project.  Both Architectural Digest and the builder involved, Schuchart/Dow, shared more beautiful photos of the Seattle home Jeffrey Bilhuber completed a awhile back.  I was already in love with this home, but these new photos sealed that feeling even more.  This home seems particularly appropriate for spring to me too.  I had the privilege of seeing the outside of this home in person while it was being remodeled, but I’d be a happier boy seeing that gorgeous interior!

I’ve been a bad blogger lately.  Life’s distractions have been getting in the way more than normal, and posts like this one have been sitting in my drafts for longer than planned.  And even though the March issue of Vogue is about to hit newsstands, I couldn’t not share this post about an amazing home in the February issue.  When I first got my hands on the magazine, featuring Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson, I knew I’d love her editorial since I love anything by photographer Mario Testino and editor Tonne Goodman.  As I was flipping through the pages I was drooling over the mid-century home Johnson is photographed in.  I knew it looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it…and then it hit me!  It’s the Los Angeles home of interior designer David Netto and his wife Elizabeth (it says it in the mag too, but I figured it out first), designed by the legendary architect Richard Neutra (Tom Ford’s LA home is also a Neutra).  Netto is one of my favorite designers, and the way he mixes old and new, classic and modern, is a very similar language to my design speak.  Of course this would be his home, and I’m so glad Vogue shared it in this very special way!  I thought I’d go ahead and share this beautiful editorial, along with some additional images of the home, as well as some suggestions from a favorite shop, West Elm, to get the look for your home.  Enjoy!!

How to get the look:

Bring in mid-century pieces by or inspired by the likes of Mies van der Rohe and Eames, mixed with pieces from Morocco and other parts of the world.  Leather, wood, and metal are important for the mid-century side of things, but add textures like wicker and natural fiber rugs to bring a touch of David Netto in.  Also make sure there’s plenty of white.  Mid-century homes can have a tendency to feel dark even with a ton of windows.

Moroccan rug from West Elm

Fluffy textures on rugs and pillows soften all those sharp edges.

Mix right angles and curves for a perfect mid-century mix.

Happy Monday!  Today’s must have is extra special, because it’s the debut of my friend Brian Paquette‘s wallpaper collection for Studio Four NYC, which he launched a little over a week ago in New York.  The 3 print collection comes in 3 color ways, with custom options available (I have some in mind), and its inspiration comes from the places he’s traveled and the people he’s met.  His ‘Corinne’ pattern might just be my favorite, and reminds me of the art Brian created that mimicked quilting at an art show of his I attended.  All 3 prints definitely have an artist’s hand to them that I love.  Brian worked with photographer Charlie Schuck to capture the wallpaper collection in a perfect way, and just before the collection debuted, Freunde von Freunden released their interview with Brian talking about his process, inspiration, and more.  Read that here, enjoy Brian’s wallpaper collection, and also get inspired by his now former apartment that I got to enjoy drinking wine in!

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d share some things in my favorite palette of pale pinks.  I’m not a huge fan of red, but it’s interesting how by adding white creates one of the prettiest shades around.  I hope you enjoyed the day with someone you love!

I’m a huge fan of the textile creations of Zak + Fox, as seen in my past post What I’m Obsessed With Now: Zak + Fox, so I’m super stoked about the latest venture by the brain behind the brand, Zak Profera.  He’s partnered with design mega-site One Kings Lane for a limited-time sale of exclusive furniture featuring three new fabrics designed just for OKL, and you have basically one more day to get in on the offerings!  Sorry for my lack of warning, but better late then never to give this beautiful capsule collection a much deserved mention.  To go along with some of my favorites from the collection, I’ve also shared photos from Zak’s super chic New York apartment recently featured on Domaine, with the world-traveled vibe you would expect after seeing his gorgeous prints inspired by places as different yet equally stunning as India and Japan.  I’m still as obsessed as ever with Zak + Fox, and now there’s even more ways to bring it home!

The men’s fall 2015 shows have traveled their way through London, Florence, Milan, and have now landed in Paris.  With that trip, many of my favorite things this week have followed!  Looks in my favorite shades of pink and peach were prevalent enough in Italy to make me happy, and I’m sure many looks from Paris will make my list next week, since I have a bunch of show catch-up to do on style.com!  A couple gorgeous rooms, art by fashion legend Helmut Lang, lighting, and a Swedish jewelry/fashion collaboration also made the list this week!  See more of what I’m loving on Pinterest and Instagram!
