Where all things beautiful collide

Tag Archives: J. Crew

So as much as I love fashion and talk about it all the time, I’m pretty simple when it comes to my own wardrobe.  Starting today with this post I thought it would be fun to give you some insight into what I wear.  First of all, I wear things to death, so any new additions are very seasonal.  I keep it pretty “basic”, adding in an exciting piece here and there, like my newest floral print shirt from my main source J. Crew.  I don’t strive for perfection, so my white sneakers are happily scuffed, shirt not perfectly pressed, and pants rolled just slightly off.  I usually like layers, but not so much in the warmer months, although I just wore a striped tee under that floral shirt (both short-sleeve) and rolled up.  I’m also about easy mixing and versatility, so with any shirt I wear only the darkest blue or black jeans, or some darker khaki chinos (always rolled up), and throw on my choice of spring/summer kicks, my navy Vans with bright yellow laces, or my white Stan Smiths.  On my lazy days, you’ll find me in short shorts and pocket tees with an older ratty pair of Vans I can’t seem to part with.  No matter the outfit or mood, I accessorize with a black Timex camper watch, and done!

I’ll be the first to admit, this post would’ve been so perfect at Easter time, but I just got super inspired the other day when Vogue.com shared photos of style icon Gloria Vanderbilt’s beautiful and exuberantly patterned interiors.  The woman has no fear when it comes to color, print, and the mix of it all.  Among that mix is the classically American pattern, gingham.  Gingham on gingham, and even a quilted combination of gingham and checks brighten up her homes, and scream spring.  Looking at Gloria’s rooms, more gingham popped into my head, this time spring fashion from the quintessentially American clothing brand J. Crew, one of my all-time favorites.  Between the two I’m ready to cover all my rooms (and me) with gingham.  It’s both classic and fun!

Spring has officially sprung as of yesterday, and I couldn’t be more ready for it!  With the fall/winter 2016 fashion shows wrapping up a few weeks ago, a surprising trend has remained in my mind, and is inspiring me now: fall florals.  You all know how much I love flowers, so this trend makes me a happy boy!  When you think of blooms you usually think of spring, so what better time to share these beautiful fashion looks we have to look forward to this autumn.  The trend really exploded in London, and was seen a bit in Milan and Paris, and when I looked back at New York, it was more about plants and greenery instead of flowers.  Ginkgo, fern, and tropicals collided with roses, lilies, and tulips.  An abstract take on flora was even seen on runways like Proenza Schouler (I might be the only one who saw it that way), as well as ditsy prints at Altuzarra.  The best part of all the plant life was all the different ways it was rendered, from embroidered, in lace, metallic, and in a painterly way.  Happy spring!

One of my favorite things in the world is giving gifts, and although I prefer gifts for that special someone being given a little more spontaneous than just on February 14th, I understand the special significance of Valentine’s Day.  It’s the official day of love.  I’m single this year, so I won’t be doing as much gift giving; probably just some fresh flowers for my mom, but I have plenty of gift ideas for you and your boo (or bae).  From flowers, to chocolate, to jewelry, I’ve rounded up 14 perfect gifts!

I know, I know…I should be thinking more about spring than I am, but I’m still feeling very inspired by the women’s pre-fall and men’s 2016 collections this month, and a big trend I noticed and always love were all the animal prints.  Leopard, tiger, cheetah, and even cow were all over the collections, and they’re fine far beyond autumn.  It’s the dead of winter now, so a little leopard intermingled with your sweaters and coats is super chic, but I love the idea of a dash of cheetah with your spring florals and stripes too.  I’ve found some great pieces to wear now, as well as some pieces to add to your home, plus plenty of my favorite animal print looks from the latest collections.  Have a great week!

Usually come January I’m ready to talk about all things warm, sunny, and springy, but then reality hits…it’s still freezing!  The men’s fall/winter 2016 collections just concluded, and the women’s pre-fall ’16 presentations are almost done, and one huge trend that I’m seeing and loving is all the shearling (and faux and real fur).  It’s not nearly as cold or snowy in my neck of the woods as other places (sorry east coast), but I think that most of us in the country can agree that bundling up sounds appropriate right now.  In fact, my order of a bomber jacket with a sherpa collar just arrived earlier today from J. Crew!  Shearling, Mongolian lamb, and fur are great beyond your wardrobe too.  Throw pillows, a rug, and even furniture covered in these materials is beyond modern and chic.  A little can go a long way though, so I wouldn’t scatter those small inexpensive sheep skins from Ikea over every surface in your home.  Choose a chair, or maybe one on the floor at the end of the bed.  They’re definitely a cozy addition to the home in the middle of winter.  It’s a must have!

Christmas is this week…yep, in like 4 days.  I’ve basically wrapped up my shopping, but the wrapping is yet to be done.  Hopefully you’re done, or almost done.  This week should be all about those last-minute little gifts, or getting some baking done.  Don’t forget one of my favorite things, the stocking stuffers!  I’ve compiled some ideas perfect for…well, me, but I think there’s really something for everyone, from beautiful chocolate bars (yes, I know Mast Brothers are in some hot water currently, but they’re still pretty chocolates), to soaps, to cozy socks.  I’d be happy with any of these things, and I think your gift recipients would be too!
