Where all things beautiful collide

Tag Archives: Putnam & Putnam

Happy Earth Day!  In honor of this day to remember the beauty of this planet we share, and more importantly how to keep it beautiful, I just wanted to share some plantspiration.  My fave florist Putnam & Putnam collaborated with West Elm earlier in the season for a couple of their catalogs, putting Putnam’s expertise in all things flowers and plants to good use, sharing their take on the terrarium.  West Elm is a longtime lover of the terrarium, as seen in various posts on their blog Front + Main.  They’re really so simple to make, and can be as simple as a single lady slipper orchid surrounded by moss, or a cactus planted in layers of varying shades of sand.  Spend your earth day creating terrariums for yourself, or better yet, spread the joy and make some for all your friends and family to keep the earth green and beautiful!

Happy Friday!  I couldn’t think of any better way to end the week than by book ending it with more amazing ceramics.  A long time favorite of mine, I first heard of ceramicist/florist/gardener Frances Palmer on Martha Stewart Living (back when Martha filmed it at Turkey Hill).  I’ve stayed a fan ever since, and to no surprise I’ve seen her start a collaboration with my favorite florist Putnam & Putnam, and have watched it grow stronger and stronger, most recently with a dinner at the Wythe hotel, featuring her pottery and their flowers.  Both of their Instagrams are among my most looked at.  They’re both so inspiring, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to bring Putnam’s flowers and Palmer’s pieces home.  Search no further than her website, Terrain, or Putnam’s 5th Ave. shop for the total package.

Although fall is by far my favorite season for fashion, and design in general, I have been so inspired for this spring!  A big part of that inspiration has been on my mind since last September when I first saw my favorite collection at New York fashion week, Calvin Klein Collection.  Creative Director Francisco Costa sent models down the runway in looks that combined elements of hard and soft.  Silk, leather, sequins, chain details, skater shoes, and my favorite part of all, stunning surrealist floral prints.  I’ve literally been thinking of these looks for six months, and I’ve been imagining how perfect that inspiration flows into the home.  Enter the ever-inspiring floral creations of Putnam & Putnam, a dose of Apparatus studio, and floral Belgian linen from one of my favorite stores, West Elm.  I’ll let the images speak more for themselves, but I’ve been so inspired by the spring Calvin Klein collection that there are more parts to this series.  Stay tuned!

I’m a little late with this, but Easter really snuck up on me!  If you’ve been following me, you know I love to set a pretty table whenever possible, but especially for the holidays.  Easter isn’t really a religious holiday for me, but more of a celebration of spring and everything waking up from its winter slumber.  My thoughts for this table would work for really any spring event you have going on, from the end of Passover to Mother’s Day in May.  One thing I’m really inspired by are natural colored eggs, and all the different varieties, so that might be the one thing you can add or subtract depending on the celebration.  For the rest of my table, I’m picturing wrinkled and creased white and pale peachy pink Belgian linens, dinnerware and bud vases by ceramicist Christiane Perrochon, bowls of those eggs in various subtle hues, and a variety of food, some served on big slabs of pink salt.  Simple and modern.  Of course, like always, I’m inspired by flower arrangements by Putnam & Putnam, and you know how blooms are a must for me on any table.  A lot of this post is really just spring inspiration more than anything, like the color palette of ceramics by Knotwork, to artwork by Still (Mary Jo Hoffman).  I’m so excited for spring to finally be here, and hope you are as inspired as me for the season!

One of my favorite things in the world is giving gifts, and although I prefer gifts for that special someone being given a little more spontaneous than just on February 14th, I understand the special significance of Valentine’s Day.  It’s the official day of love.  I’m single this year, so I won’t be doing as much gift giving; probably just some fresh flowers for my mom, but I have plenty of gift ideas for you and your boo (or bae).  From flowers, to chocolate, to jewelry, I’ve rounded up 14 perfect gifts!

It seems like every week I look at the things I loved, and there’s always a little consistency.  Flowers are one of those steadies in my life week to week, specifically the work of Putnam & Putnam.  I now have a new monthly in-studio photo shoot to look forward to from the Putnams.  This week was also full of pre-fall 2016 fashion, art by Josef Albers and Ellsworth Kelly, who died just after Christmas.  The latter is best known for his brightly-hued pop art, but his simple botanical sketches are what’s really inspiring me right now.  I’ve been almost too inspired lately, but I’ll take that over not enough anyday.  I hope you felt inspired this week!

So this list is a couple of days late from when I normally post it.  Something called New Years distracted me.  This week was a lot about fashion, since I was thinking so much about what to wear on New Year’s Eve, and I was particularly inspired by the jewelry, bags, and embellished boots from the fall ’15, and spring ’16 collections, and paillettes of fashion’s past.  On the home front, I’ve been thinking of fresh looks for the new year, like a bed update, and I am inspired particularly by spaces by the likes of Axel Vervoordt, and Jeffrey Bilhuber.  And I’m still loving all things mid-century.  Pretty flowers and table settings are still a must this year too!
