Where all things beautiful collide

Happy Friday!  I couldn’t think of any better way to end the week than by book ending it with more amazing ceramics.  A long time favorite of mine, I first heard of ceramicist/florist/gardener Frances Palmer on Martha Stewart Living (back when Martha filmed it at Turkey Hill).  I’ve stayed a fan ever since, and to no surprise I’ve seen her start a collaboration with my favorite florist Putnam & Putnam, and have watched it grow stronger and stronger, most recently with a dinner at the Wythe hotel, featuring her pottery and their flowers.  Both of their Instagrams are among my most looked at.  They’re both so inspiring, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to bring Putnam’s flowers and Palmer’s pieces home.  Search no further than her website, Terrain, or Putnam’s 5th Ave. shop for the total package.

New Years is probably my favorite holiday to celebrate each year, with an optimistic look forward to the year to come, and dressing my party best both in my thoughts.  Keep in mind it’s still very much winter, so there’s no need to take down the decorations from Christmas quite yet, but I like to freshen them up a bit with some new additions, or better yet, hit the after-Christmas sales for great deals on ornaments, etc. to get a whole new palette for New Years.  If you recall, I did blush tones with metallics for Christmas, but for New Years, I’m thinking of a heavier dose of metal, copper specifically.  I’ve found some amazing things from one of my favorite shops, Terrain, that are copper-hued, with winter greens, and flowers in citrusy shades and deep coppery reds joining the mix.  What to wear?  Well, copper of course!  You could do head-to-toe metallic Proenza Schouler, or do just a copper accessory with a great LBD.  Just have fun, and don’t forget plenty of champagne!  I’d recommend orange labeled Veuve Cliquot.  See you in 2016!!

It’s already December…when did that happen?!  With this being the first almost full week of the month, my mind is definitely turning to thoughts of winter and the holidays of the season, from Hanukkah to New Year’s Eve.  My favorite things this week found on Pinterest, Instagram, and beyond are definitely nourishing these thoughts for holiday entertaining and decorating.  Table settings by Athena Calderone of Eyeswoon and Duet Weddings via Green Wedding Shoes are giving me plenty to think about for my own holiday entertaining, a cozy wintry bedroom by Jersey Ice Cream Co. would be the perfect guest room, Aerin Lauder’s Colorado home is what I want my home to look like for winter, I want to deck the halls with pretty things from West Elm and Terrain, and the pre-fall 2016 collections so far are inspiring me for holiday outfits.  Beyond that, I’m loving textiles by Rule of Three, rugs by fashion designer Paul Smith, and the ever-chic home of artist Cy Twombly.  Hope you’re staying warm!

Fall and winter are my favorite seasons for so many reasons, and as the months progress, even more things layer on to make it even more beautiful.  The palette I loved from October and November gets richer, but with a good dose of crisp white, my favorite flowers like hellebores and forced bulbs start blooming, and spaces get cozier with throws and blankets scattered about.  Veranda magazine was a huge source of inspiration for the month, with the home of Shawn Henderson, Aerin Lauder, and a project by florist Putnam & Putnam filling the pages.  From those pages and beyond, I’m full of inspiration.  I’m loving the dried flowers and ceramics in a bedroom by Jersey Ice Cream Co., and fresh amaryllis and paperwhites found throughout other rooms of the season.  I’ve also been inspired to use citrus this year as my holiday decorations.  Shawn Henderson, and Putnam & Putnam both created vintage inspired trees with dried fruit.  Elle Decor also featured a tree covered with dried orange pomanders on their cover.  Bowls of fruit, tons of greenery, and flowers everywhere are all I want for Christmas.  Other things inspiring me now are blue and white Delft, a table inspired by geodes and rock crystals, layers of texture and color, and so much more!

It’s the final countdown before Thanksgiving, and the last thing I do is get my flowers ready for the table.  Once again I’m inspired by the work of Putnam & Putnam, and the idea of arranging flowers in unexpected vessels that you can find around the house.  Putnam often uses a specific style of bowl for table arrangements, and that got me thinking about the containers I could find in my kitchen cabinets, and even out in the garden.  Antique silver bowls, pitchers, soup tureens, mixing bowls, and even garden urns would make for the perfect fall flower arrangements.  My favorite has to be the idea of turning a pretty brass and glass candle hurricane into a cloche, stacking fruit and flowers inside.  Just open your cupboards and get inspired for your own unexpected flower arrangement!

There’s so much I love about autumn, but one of my favorite things is adding those perfect fall layers to my home.  A wall of photography, ceramics, cozy textured pillows, moody textiles, pretty lighting, brass and copper accents, dried and fresh flowers and greens, bowls of fruits and vegetables, warm blankets and throws, handmade baskets, and candles with scents of the season are just a few of the touches I like to add this time of year.  What are your favorite things to bring home for fall?

I’m in Seattle for the weekend to celebrate my birthday, so I’ll be surrounded with some of my favorite people, going to my favorite restaurants and shops, and seeing my favorite Seattle sights.  Perfect timing for my weekly list of favorite things found on Instagram, Pinterest, and on my go-to websites.  This week I loved a modern home in Vermont, rooms by Miles Redd and Benjamin Vandiver, a pretty eat-in kitchen, layered table linens and rugs, flowers by Putnam & Putnam, ceramics by Paula Greif, Belgian linen bedding from West Elm, and African-inspired accessories by Valentino.
