Where all things beautiful collide

Tag Archives: The Line

In the final installment of my series on what’s inspiring me now, revolving around my favorite spring collection, Calvin Klein, the conversation between hard and soft continues.  Leather ruled the runway, but so did silk, sequins, and more.  Yesterday I talked about my favorite black leather furniture pieces, and this post continues that story on how to bring that element also seen on the Calvin Klein runway home, and how to keep the balance of masculine and feminine, hard and soft.  Apparatus continues to play a big role in this dialogue too, with their homes and studio in the mix.  Not that you should copy anyone exactly, but I’ve found some perfect pieces to get the look of their living room.  If you dissect it and also take inspiration from Calvin Klein, you’ll see materials as opposite as each other like silk and concrete, travertine and linen, or wood and fur.  Think of adding any of these elements, and others like leather or snakeskin to your space.  But keep an editing eye, and only add a dollop of each to keep it chic and modern.  And don’t forget my favorite element of all, flowers!

I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’m wanting to see in home and fashion design for fall 2016 (I know I’m a year ahead), and with the men’s fall 2016 and women’s pre-fall ’16 collections being shown currently, there’s been plenty of inspiration.  This post actually started out as a “what’s inspiring me now” story, but it ended up that those inspirational things, with a few more additions, were the 10+ things I loved this week.  Woodgrain in art and fashion, shearling, a favorite interior by Kara Mann, photo shoots by Charlie Schuck for Schai, and a story by The Line on the art of arranging things, inspired by Leonard Koren, haute couture, marble, and a favorite spring campaign kept my mind enlightened this week!

Christmas is this week…yep, in like 4 days.  I’ve basically wrapped up my shopping, but the wrapping is yet to be done.  Hopefully you’re done, or almost done.  This week should be all about those last-minute little gifts, or getting some baking done.  Don’t forget one of my favorite things, the stocking stuffers!  I’ve compiled some ideas perfect for…well, me, but I think there’s really something for everyone, from beautiful chocolate bars (yes, I know Mast Brothers are in some hot water currently, but they’re still pretty chocolates), to soaps, to cozy socks.  I’d be happy with any of these things, and I think your gift recipients would be too!

Christmas is in three weeks, and Hanukkah is even sooner, so it’s time for me to share my favorite gifts to give this season.  I’ve tried to think about what all the adults on my list would want, and I secretly want most of them myself.  I’ve even included a few stocking stuffer ideas, and how to wrap the gifts.  Fresh greens tied with ribbon is the way I’m going this season.  What on this list do I most want for myself?  I’d have to say Apparatus Studio’s new Neo Marble objects.  What’s on your list?

Some things just stick with me, and seem to be a constant source of inspiration.  An editorial from the October issue of Vogue has been doing just that for the last month.  The story involved black and white looks all including super chunky cable knit sweaters, pleats, and a little faux fur.  So in other words…texture.  Fall is all about layering, and not just for your outfit.  I’ve been pondering a lot on how to layer up my house, and it’s not much different than dressing.  Faux fur pillows and throws, sweater-like blankets, Mongolian fur pillow covers, cow hide and shaggy rugs, and even furniture upholstered in shearling, leather, and other exotic skins bring all that texture from the runways home for the season.  I love it all!

In honor of Halloween, I thought I’d share some of my favorite rooms, houses, lighting, ceramics, and more in the moodiest of all tones, black.  I’ve been obsessed with this non-color hue for quite sometime, and that love continues to increase.  From a room painted entirely in glossy black, to just a pop of matte black on a lampshade, it’s really worth adding it to any space, traditional or modern.  Black is chic well beyond this time of year too.  Just change up the colors that join it, from ochre and dark reds now, to pale pink and greens in spring and summer.  Bring a little black magic home.  Happy Halloween!!

P.S. I’m back blogging with tons of new things to share.  I hope you join me!
